How to get to the Parish of St. Monica and St. James Episcopal Church (222 8th St. NE, Washington DC - Map )

Please note. Parking is on the street. When you enter, go through the church courtyard, walk to the back and go to the green door.  Do not enter the church through the sanctuary. There is a service there every Tuesday.

From Virginia
Take 14th St. Bridge into the city.  At the second traffic light, turn right on Independence.  Take Independence past the Mall and past the Capitol.  Just as you pass the Capitol Building, Independence becomes Pennsylvania Avenue (very briefly.)  Stay the course.  At 2nd Street, take a slight jog to the left, across Pennsylvania Avenue to stay on Independence.  Take Independence to 8th St. SE, turn left on to 8th St.  Stay on 8th, crossing East Capitol Street, Massachusetts Avenue NE, and Constitution St. NE.  The church is in the block between Constitution and C on the left hand side.

From Union Station
These are walking directions but can be followed by drivers as well.  With Union Station at your back, turn left and walk to Massachusetts Avenue NE, which is the big road running outside the Station from East to West.  Take Massachusetts Avenue to Staunton Park (between 4th and 6th Streets.)  Walk through the park in a "straight" line to stay on Massachusetts.  Or imagine that the park is the face of a clock and you are entering at 7 and going out at 1.  On the far side of the park, stay on Massachusetts for one more long block, and then take a slight jog to the left for one short block on Constitution NE, turn left on 8th St.  The church will be on your left in the next block.  Allow 12-15 minutes if walking.

From Maryland
Take Baltimore Washington Parkway into DC.  At end of Parkway, go in the direction of Richmond, not NY Avenue, on 295.  Take 295 to East Capitol Street exit. It will be on your right, approximately 5 minutes time.  The exit ramp will place you on East Capitol Street.  Go with the flow of the traffic over the Anacostia River -- RFK Stadium will be in front of you.  Stay to the right and rather than going completely around the stadium, veer to the right just after you come upon the stadium (the road is poorly marked here, but most of the traffic will be flowing this way.)  This will put you on Constitution Avenue NE.  Travel a few short blocks and you can veer right again onto C Street NE (at about 16th Street NE).  Take C Street NE to 8th Street NE, turn left.  The church will be on your right.

From Eastern Market Metro Station ( Blue and Orange Lines)
Exit the Eastern Market metro station and turn left onto 8th Street SE.  The station is almost to the crossroads of Pennsylvania Avenue SE and 8th St.  Walk north on 8th Street, crossing:  Independence, North Carolina, East Capitol, Massachusetts, and Constitution.  The church will be in the block between Constitution and C on your left.  Allow 12 minutes for this walk.
