Quick Information - The Who, What, When, Where, and Why...

Who we are…

  • A non-auditioned community chorus with a 24-year history making beautiful music in the Washington, DC area.
  • Women and men working together to learn and perform great music.
  • People of many different backgrounds working together to administer the chorus through the consensus model.
  • A fun group of friendly, thoughtful people!

What we do…

  • Present two major concerts every year (winter and spring), plus a variety of smaller performances throughout the year.
  • Perform music from a wide span of time periods and musical traditions, in a variety of languages, about almost every topic.
  • Affirm and honor LGBT people and work for social justice.

When we meet…

  • We generally rehearse 7:00-9:45 PM every Tuesday from September through June (with a few breaks):
    • 7:00-7:30 – quiet tutoring time (optional).
    • 7:30-7:45 – group warm-up.
    • 7:45-9:45 – rehearsal time, which includes sectional work and large ensemble work, plus a 15-minute break.
    • As needed, the music director will ask a section to stay an extra 15 minutes to rehearse problem spots that arise during rehearsal.
  • Occasionally, we have special rehearsals on Saturdays (usually 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM). As we get close to one of our major concerts, we usually have one or two Wednesday rehearsals (7:00-9:45 PM).

Where we meet…

  • Most of our rehearsals take place in the parish hall of the Parish of St. Monica and St. James Episcopal Church (222 8th St., NE – at the corner of 8th & C Sts., NE)
  • Regrettably, the historic church is not accessible for the disabled. However, we have been able to accommodate members who require assistance with the steps into the rehearsal space. Please talk to us about how we can meet your needs.
  • We have performed at various venues around the DC region. Recently, our performance home for our winter and spring concerts has been Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church (4th St. & Independence Ave., SE).

Why we sing…

  • To challenge and express ourselves in ways that we can’t do anywhere else.
  • To give voice to the struggle for social justice.
  • Because we love to sing!
