The Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington, D.C. (LGCW) was a 25-voice, non-audition, consensus-based, community chorus. For 26 years, the LGCW featured a broad repertoire of choral music that affirms social justice, gay and lesbian pride, cultural diversity, and humor. Click here to see the who, what, when, where, and why of the LGCW.
The LGCW presented two major concerts annually and appeared at numerous community events supporting local organizations. The LGCW was proud to be under the musical direction of C. Paul Heins.
In 2002-03, we happily celebrated our 20th Anniversary of singing boldly. Click here for more information.
The LGCW offered a complimentary ticket program for people with HIV/AIDS, lesbians with cancer, the deaf, sexual minority youth, and others who cannot easily access the arts. The tickets are distributed through 40 service organizations and are also available on an individual basis. One performance of each concert was interpreted for the deaf.
The LGCW recorded three CDs -- its most recent release, "LGCW LIVE!" takes the listener on a voyage from Tchaikovsky to Schoolhouse Rock.
The LGCW has received funding from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities/National Endowment for the Arts, Brother Help Thyself, and the Capitol Hill Community Foundation. We offer a special thanks to these organizations!
The LGCW is a charter member of the GLBT Arts Consortium, a network of arts organizations and individual artists that builds bridges within and beyond the GLBT arts community. The LGCW is also a member of the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington, Washington Area Music Association (WAMA), Chorus America, ASCAP, and BMI.
